This week, Kevin is the World’s Most Powerful Man (and his Twin Brother) on episode seven of HBO’s The Leftovers.

Kevin is the President. Kevin is an Assassin. Kevin is in the Guilty Remnant. Kevin has a key in his heart. Dean is a Special Forces Operator. Patty is the Secretary of Defense. Meg is the Vice President. Christopher Sunday is the Prime Minister of Australia. The Kevins fucked up with Nora. Kevin blows everything up.

Cord: At this stage in the game, I don’t have the energy to try and decipher every little thing about this show. I get there’s some sort of symbolism with the nuclear end of the world, and the romance novel, and the reflections, and God being an ear piece. I get there’s something to it, but instead of trying to decipher all of that crap, I’m just going to sit back and let HBO tell this weird-ass fucked up story about the end (or not end) of the world. At this point in the universe, each element is a flourish for the characters and it’s another opportunity to show just how well written and well loved these characters are. Sometimes I don’t get it, but I don’t care– I guess I don’t have to to enjoy Kevin working through his emotional problems in the netherworld. I fucking love this show. 8.5/10

Will:

Listen, I’m not the most intelligent man in the world. My arguments consist of “it was stupid” or “it was cool” more often than it should. I don’t get into the jargon that Cord and Caleb do, envious as I am. But I’ve got conviction in my opinions. This episode was fantastic. This whole episode, nearly, played out in Kevin Garvey’s mind, meaning that all those times he was ‘at the hotel,’ he was actually in some catatonic state, on the brink between life and death, playing a deadly game with himself. Is he happy now that his alternative world is gone? Can he even be happy? We have one more episode to find out. From the two Kevin’s, the penis scanner, the return of Patti, the death of his ‘world’ and Dean…it was outstanding. I’m completely entranced with the creators’ and actors’ work and can’t wait to find out what happens. Will Kevin and Nora find solace together? Maybe apart? Will they both even be alive at the end of the episode? Was any of this real? Was this all in Kevin’s head the entire time? Lindelof and Perotta knocked this series out of the park and I’m going to be sad to see it depart. June 4th is my October 14th. 10/10

Caleb:

Well folks – one episode left. As we approach the final episode of The Leftovers, I’d like to reflect on the series. I know my expectations were high for this season. I know I’ve doubted the show’s ability to live up to those expectations. Acknowledging that the show may not live up to the hype I gave it was a tough pill to swallow. However, seven episodes into this season and I feel like it has done just that. Following Laurie’s departure from the show and Kevin’s return to the other side – this show continues to blow me away. I loved this week’s episode. I love going to visit the other side – which I’m almost certain is Kevin’s subconscious. I don’t know what I love more, Kevin’s incredulous refusal of the other side’s rules (e.g. THIS IS FUCKING STUPID) or the heavy thump on the penis scanner. This episode was amazing. 9.75/10
